Perfect Packed Lunches

sunday-lunch-6

For the past few days I've been working quite a long way from home, or in fact anywhere, which has necessitated both very early mornings and a packed lunch. I have to say I'm quite lazy and most evenings the last thing I want to do is make my lunch, especially when most of the time the canteen looks so much more appetising. Being forced to make my own lunch has really made me reconsider though. It's so much cheaper for one, not to mention more healthy and I've been coming up with my own ways to make my lunch more exciting. I thought I'd share a few with you.

.Reliving the food of your childhood! From the age of five to eleven I had packed lunch at school everyday because the school dinners weren't very nice and all my friends had packed lunch anyway! Recently the old classics such as peanut butter and jam sandwiches, hard boild eggs (hard to believe but it was actually a massive craze when I was about eight!) and kitkats, yum!

.Get baking. At the weekend my sister made cinnamon muffins which are so yummy - there's nothing better than sometihng homemade and delicious in your lunch. Cookies and biscuits are also a good choice.

.Hot food. If you have a kitchen at work then why not bring some soup, pasta or similar you can microwave? We have a toastie maker at work at the moment, so cheese and ham toasties have become very popular!

.A cute packed lunch box. This is definitely on my list of purchases to help inspire me to keep making my lunch.

.Weird fruit. Go on, try something strange you can't pronounce from the supermarket!

.A thermos of tea or coffee is a necessity if you have a long commute to work. It's stopped me from falling asleep and missing my station a lot this past week!

.If you're bored of sandwiches what about cheese and crackers? Or toasted pitta and humus - another favourite!

Do you take a packed lunch to school or work? What's your favourite lunchtime snack?

I'm marking this post as a favorite so I can come back to it after reading week. I usually take my lunch into uni because even though the student-subsidised cafe is cheap, the food isn't very good! Not to mention all the vegetarian stuff gets sold out by the time I get there (that's what I get for going to a leftist university where everyone is vegetarian! Ha!) I've been taking various types of sandwiches, which really isn't very exciting, but it's all I can be bothered to make in the morning.

You are so right, a cute lunchbox is a *must*. I am going to hunt for one right now. Please share pictures when you do find one you love!

Also, if you get tired of coffee/tea, try green tea! I love adding some agave nectar (I can't handle unsweetened hot drinks!) and a pinch of cinnamon. It actually helps keep my mind clear and awake during early-morning lectures!

I have a cute flask which means I take coffee into uni instead of buying the yucky stuff in the cafe. I always take my lunch in but I do get a bit bored of just sandwiches. I might try making some houmus actually! I love taking carrot sticks in too or defrosting frozen mixed fruit in a little box to take in. With a yoghurt. Yum.

I used to love taking packed lunches to school haha.
I still make my Dad's up each night for him, just because I can ;)

Great post! When I'm at work, its all too tempting to have lunch at the Pret near my workplace. But I think taking a packed lunch is so much more convenient, and cheaper. I'll definitely try some of these out.

I've been trying to take packed lunch but i'm too lazy! Maybe I will buy a pretty lunch box to inspire me to do it more often though!

wow! yummy! makes me hungry. :) Pack my lunch? I don't think I can manage. I wake up too late for a 7:30am duty that I have to rush shower and dressing every single work day.

That was really an awesome packed lunch ideas. Especially the cookies, they look really great! I love it. I would like to share also another good and fantastic food stacking container. I found it in Happy Tiffin site. I can say that it's really useful and reliable because its durable and flexible. You can use it in many ways, you can carry it along with you without any difficulties, you can also store your fave food in separate plates so that it won't get mix and become messed up. It's also good in a way that it is 100% BPA free so you can guarantee that you're food is safe as well as your health. ;)
