I turn my camera on

IMG_0009

So on Wednesday a massive box from Amazon arrived containing my new camera! Blogging has increased my awareness of photography so much, and in the end I decided that if I was serious about it I was going to have to save up and buy myself an slr.

After much research I went for the Canon 450D, which is used by quite a few other bloggers, and got excellent reviews as a good camera for a beginner that was pretty customisable as well.

Already I can see the difference even just on auto mode compared to my trusty point-and-shoot. I am really looking forward to getting to grips with all the different options and buttons I now have at my disposal! If anyone can recommend a good book on slr photography or any websites I'd love to hear about them!

Jealous!!!! I want one but right now it's ot financially possible :( Also, I'm terrified of photos of myself so no outfit posts ever from me! Which is a pity because I love them on blogs, like yours! x

I'd love to get an SLR but I don't think I have any photography skills at all! I really want to take a digital photography class, and then if I have a knack for it, save up for an SLR :)

Is it just me or have they become really popular these days? It seems that everywhere I go, I see people with massive SLRs hanging from their necks!

Yey cameras!!! I've been loving mine, I've been learning about how to take proper pictures and what the settings actually mean. it's made such a difference in my pictures and I feel like a proper photographer when I use the view finder rather than the LCD screen - hearkening back to the first cameras I ever had!

Leia, you might have been seeing ones which are "bridge" models which have become more popular (I've got one) as they've got cheaper. They look like SLRs but they're actually more like point and shoots, just with a massive lens. Can't change lens though.

Oh awesome, this looks so great! I love my fancy cam. I have to ask though, I assume it's a Blogger setting rather than a camera one as you've always had it, but how do you get Blogger to show the really sharp pictures? I've seen it on a few blogs but I just can't fathom it...

The camera looks amazing! Have fun with it. I know I should buy a proper camera at some stage as well: for outfit pics mainly.

Ahh lucky girl! I'd love to have a proper DSLR camera, but can't afford it probably until I graduate!!

Ah, lucky! That camera looks amazing!
I've wanted a camera like that for a very long time. I'm actually hoping that I can persuade my parents to buy me one for my birthday. *fingers crossed*

I am very veyr jealous! I've been looking to save for a DSLR for ages, but I always seem to find something else to spend my money on!

"Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a pretty highly regarded basic but fundamental book. It's not very high on wordcount, but you should learn a fair amount if this is your first foray into manual shooting. And if all fails it makes a decent coffee table book.
