Warring Influences

On Tuesday evening I bought my first ever item from Cos, and I can't wait to put together some outfits with it. It was an interesting choice, for me at least, because Cos isn't somewhere I'd normally choose to shop. I mainly went in because they had a sale! Cos has a very definite look, an adrogenous simple elegent look. I imaging glamourous Tilda Swinton types shop in there, and it is miles away from my ususal girly, generally inelegent style. I have always admired it from afar, but without ever really thinking it could be for me, or that it would work mixed in with my ususal style.

Do you ever find your self loving a look but knowing it's not really 'you'? I often look longingly at things that don't go with anything and wondering how I could combine it with what I love and make it my own? Often they end up hanging in my wardrobe unworn though, so I will try doubly hard to make sure this isn't the case with this new purchase!

Do you think much about how your new buys will fit in with what you've got, or are you more spontaneous and don't worry about such things? Is Cos your style?

I never used to think about it. I used to buybuybuybuy anything & everything that I saw (& I didn't & definitely still don't have a 'disposable' income, I just used to buy any ol' crap in Primark all the time) without trying it on or even really thinking about what I was buying, or regarding whether it suited me, my style or my shape or not. Now I'm much poorer & thinking more about my outfits & my wardrobe - I like seeing, on fashion blogs particularly, the same items come up over & over again. I don't find it boring at all! I love seeing how many different ways one person can wear one item. So that definitely inspires me to buy more carefully selected pieces rather than skirts in every colour, etc. I definitely have to think about whether it'll actually suit my shape & even thinking that it might could be way different to how it actually looks on. For example, I tried on that lovely JOY skirt today but it didn't suit me :( 6 months ago, I would have just bought it & had it hanging in the wardrobe 'til now to find that out. Whew, that was a bit of a ramble, sorry!

I LOVE these pieces of clothing!
They are so simple, yet so striking with their bold shapes and interesting lines. I like basic items because you can pair them with more unique, intricate pieces.
I often find myself loving things that I know I can't pull off because I'm short. Some stuff is even hard to get tailored because it simply was just not made for short people. Haha, so that's frustrating.
I am SO picky about what I buy. If I have even an inkling I won't wear it often, I won't buy it, but sometimes it's fun to go outside your comfort zone, so best of luck with your new purchase! You seem creative enough to make it your own style :)
And that's my too-long shpeel on that!

I am always up for new styles, so I can't think of anything right that I've bought and I wouldn't wear.

Although looking from the comment above, it probably isn't the style of clothes I have issues with, but rather the cut and how it fits my body. Being 5'3" and curvy means clothes may not exactly look great on you!

I've liked so many things from stores such as Oasis and Cos, but really have no idea how to put them with something else in my wardrobe. I can't wait to see how you put your piece together.

Hi, I've never bought anything from Cos either but they opened a shop in Glasgow a few weeks ago, so will take a look. Generally I know in my heart of hearts when I love something but it's just not me. Experience learnt from a few expensive mistakes! x

Lovely designs and outfits. COS is just great for basics. The grey (suede?) coat is beautiful. Great finds!
