Give and Gain

This is my incredibly unfashionable look for today! I spent the day painting a wall in a primary school in West London as part of the Give and Gain initiative where companies give a load of their employees some supplies and let them run riot helping the local community, or attempting to! I can't say my painting skills are too good, I was fine when I was just working on 'grass' or 'sky', but when someone told me 'now paint a walrus' I have to say I was a bit stuck... The kids seemed to like it though, they even sang us a 'well done' song. It was very cute!

If your company offers the chance to get involved with something like this, or you ever get the chance otherwise I would definitely recommend it - it was so much fun and really seemed to make a difference. Wouldn't recommend you try it on the hottest day of the year like I did though...

That sounds like a really fun opportunity, artistic talent or no. and a thank you song sounds really fun. :)

Wow, Harriet, how awesome! When I was about 15 or 16 I was involved with a local primary school called the ABC school. On Saturdays, we normally taught them different subjects that they didn't learn in school, like English, Computers, Sports, and Art, but once we went and painted their school (which was more like a room). We didn't do a fancy paint job of sky and grass and walruses, though - we just painted the entire thing white! It was definitely a rewarding experience :)

My friend did this too - she helped set up a garden area at a school and loved it! It's such a good idea and much better than sitting at your desk all day. Glad you had fun! x

Ooh this sounds fun! One of the reasons I love working in the library is all of the community involvement we have.
