I was reading the BBC news page today (I do read things other than fashion blogs occaisionally!) and I came across an article which I found very inspiring called Eu Decido Meu Voto (Which I'm guessing means I Decide My Vote!) It is coming up to the national elections in Brazil and many people there do not feel that their voices are being heard by politicians and are promised a lot with very little delivery. I think we all feel like that at some point, but I don't think I've ever been badly off enough to actually do something about it!
In response to these feelings a group of organisations have got together to teach women in some of the poorest parts of Brazil to take photographs, look at different angles and crop photos to get the best effects. These photos have then been made into postcards to send to the candidates asking their opinions on various topics such as crime, health and racism. The women are also keeping a blog (not in English surprisingly!) to follow up what the candidates have said and holding them to their promises.
As fashion bloggers we are a community of (mostly) women who take photographs of ourselves and write our blogs for fun. It is so great to see that something I love is being used in such a positive way. Polls suggest Brazil may vote in their first female president when the election happens, and I really hope these women get the change they deserve.
