skirt - Zara, blouse - Dorothy Perkins, shoes - Dune, tights - from Italy, necklace - Vintage, watch - Marc by Marc Jacobs

This is my current favourite work outfit. You can't really tell in the photo but the blouse is covered in a really pretty bird print. At the moment I'm kind of transitioning to a more senior role and there's been a lot of discussion amongst the colleagues who started when I did about whether we should start dressing more smartly at work. I don't have a massive work wardrobe and quite a lot of it was bought when I first started, cheaply and in a rush because I had almost nothing appropriate to wear.

I definitely feel like the time has come to invest in a few more suits and making sure my work wardrobe will last me for the next ten years or so. I'm not a sloppy work dresser by any means, but I do neglect my work clothes in favour of buying nice new weekend clothes instead! Plus I'm still pretty young at work and I figure looking a bit smarter can only help when it comes to people taking me seriously (or not!)

I love the blouse. It immediately stood out for me. I love the sleeves on it.

Work dressing is defintely a bit hard. I'd always opt for buying casual clothes instead. But it is an important wardrobe to have. I have a stash of professional trousers and blouses for when I get another job.

Oh Harriet! You look so elegant. I definitely think that dressing up and looking smart shows you are more serious. The pearl necklace is such a pretty touch, too!

Well done on the promotion (?) :D

This is very smart! I'm still in school so I haven't had to face the "dressing for work" dilemma yet but I'm a little bit afraid of it.

I like your shoes.

I love those white tights!

I think investing in one or two good suits which can stay with you for the next few years is a really good idea. I work in a really casual office and I've found I can turn up look at myself and think, dear god I look scruffy. It's nice to have that transition between work and play.

Ohh office wear inspiration!

monochromatic love!! I bought some white tights at the end of last year but fear they look a little silly. I think the textured vertical stripes on the tights ensures they're lengthening rather than producing the opposite-of-slimming-black i-have-trunks-for-legs effect. The balancing of colours from head-to-toe: b&w/ b solid/ white solid/ b solid = massive stroke of genius. *outfit favourited*

Congrats! and I love this outfit- you look perfectly classy- work outfits are definitely hard though. I have a few interviews I have to dress business casual for coming up and I'm so nervous- I don't have much as I'm still in college.

Oh my, that bird shirt is to die for! We need a close up! :P

I live in fear of the day I need formal work attire. I'm a terrible dresser when it comes to looking professional.

Oh, I WISH I could wear such pretty clothes for work, *sighs* . What a great outfit. Love the pearl necklace, and those tights :)

You look so elegant & smart, but in a really fresh way - not at all in a fuddy-dud way. I think you'll always find a way to bring a little bit of pizzazz to your outfit though, suit or not!

I totally agree as I wear pretty florals and vintage dresses to work, and people think I'm a lot younger than I am. I also don't wear my best clothes as I'm up and down ladders and putting up displays so don't want my best to get ruined, I save them for weekends too. But while working in a shop its hard to dress smart or older as its not piratical, I do find if I worked in an office I would try a quirky grown up look, like yours. I love how you've kept this fresh and funky with the tights and shoes! Great look x

i HATE the whole formalwear thing. at uni, we used have to dress formally for placements and i was so excited about being able to interpret formal wear as my own.. but now i can't in my current job. :(

you look lovely lovely x

I'm the same, I'd love to be a lot more dressy in the office (well, when I'm working of course!) but then I prefer to buy weekend clothes instead - seems silly when I'm spending more of my time in work wear!

I love that blouse! I'm not too keen on suits really, I am quite petite so always think they will drown me or make me look too masculine. No-one in the library wears a suit anyway, not even the head of the entire library service! But I do like smart skirts, dresses & blouses.

I'm really interested to know where you work! :) I always want to know that kind of stuff with fellow bloggers, because I see all these creative people and am always surprised to find out they have serious jobs! :) You look very nice, I think that lipstick colour goes really well with your hair colour, and I like the short hair with bangs too! It really suits you

I love those shoes, they are perfect for work. I'm not keen on suits so I dress pretty much like how you are dressed here for work.
