Maximillion

The crouch is my new favourite blog pose. Uncomfortable and you can't see the dress? Yes, but also oddly flattering!

I realise I'm about two years late, but I think I finally understand the appeal of the maxi dress. Initially I dismissed them as impossible for me, as I'm pretty short, and I figured I'd just look even shorter, not to mention pregnant. But thankfully I was wrong.

Matalan sent me this maxi dress a couple of months ago, and I fell in love. I don't feel short, I feel statuesque and grecian goddesslike. The print makes it more modern than hippy, and the fitted top and the addition of a belt reduces my 'OMG I look pregnant' fears to pretty much nil! I know I am still short, because I keep tripping over the hem, but I can live with that!

The only thing I wasn't sure about was the sleeves. Initially they were long and princessy, and they kept falling into my coffee and I'd accidentally sit on them. In the end I safetypinned them into three quarter length sleeves, which I think go quite well and are much more manageable.

You look gorgeous! I especially think the greys and purples look lovely against your skin and hair.

I love maxi dresses, but it's *really* hard to find shapes that are flattering! I think it was a great idea to pin up the sleeves; long sleeves on maxi dresses can be too overwhelming (as well as annoying!). You look lovely, Harriet!

I am really short too and had the same issues with maxi dresses but I think they are ok as long as the skirt isn't too full. I quite often alter sleeves, skirts and trousers so they look better too. The dress looks really beautiful on you.

Oh I love that dress! Makes me want a maxi.

Thanks for the comments, especially the second! I never meant to cause a debate, I thought I was just writing a style column on 'Childhood'. Anyway as you seem to imply that the comments helped I've put a edit in the main post now so hopefully that will sort out the confusion. :) Anyway, your opinion was very much appreciated.

It took me aaaaages to get over my maxi dress fear for the same reasons, until my Mum dared me to try one on one day & I realised they were actually quite flattering. Yours is divine though, the print really suits you! Can't wait to wear mine. It's in a bag somewhere & I canny find it!

hun it's beautiful on you. I'm 6'2 myself and always used to worry about wearing maxi's but now I have 3-4 hanging in my wardrobe. The belt makes this dress look even better.

This dress is soooo amazing! I LOVE it. I'm short also, it actually elongates the silhouette. This is very flattering on you.
