For Christmas my boyfriend bought me a day course at London Photo Tours and this weekend I finally got around to taking it. There were a number of course options to chose from but eventually I settled on their Outdoor Portrait class, as I think what I enjoy more than anything is taking photos of people.

Compared to my fellow class members I felt very inexperienced as a photographer, and my photos were certainly not the best of the bunch but to be honest that didn't matter. I had such a fantastic time, and absorbed so much knowledge, I think it really will improve my photos going forward.

Before the course I had read a lot of books and magazines about photography, but although I enjoy reading about photography, it's no substitute for having someone there with you actually explaining there and then how to correct your errors, or tweak your camera settings to get a better image. It was honestly one of the best birthday presents I've ever been given!

So thank to James for buying it for me, and to Lou for teaching me, and to my classmates Christa, Alex, Dave, Gene and Linda for being my willing models!

oh that course sounds so good. i definitely agree that it's easier to learn when someone is actually there with you explaining what to do plus practice is also crucial!! im lucky to have some photographers as friends because of where i work and they're always helping me out and bring their cool equipment into work. i'd love to do a course though

Brave you! Taking photos of strangers is so very hard for me, even though i love to see a good portrait, a super shy to ask for a pose. You did a good job indeed.

Great to see your photos posted Harriet. You have captured some wonderful compositions showing insight into your subjects. You were also a great Super Model for the group when it was your turn to pose. Real pleasure to meet and work with you. Hope to see you again soon... Maybe Creative Seeing or Street next time!
