The Problem Child

jacket - elle, culottes - ymc, belt - vintage, shirt - m&s

Please excuse my hair - it's having a crazy day.

Ahem. Do you have items in your wardrobe which you love but don't quite seem to go with anything else you own? This is one of my biggest fashion sins - puchasing the perfect item of clothing, and ignoring the fact it goes with nothing in my wardrobe.

This jacket is a prime example. I've had it for ages, and yet it rarely makes it out of the cupboard. It's survived numerous wardrobe culls where I've ruthlessly go rid of all the other 'I never wear it' items, but somehow I still don't seem to wear it.

I'm hoping by getting it out and photographing it I may get some inspiration as to what on earth I can wear it with! I'm starting with one of my most basic go-to outfits and we'll work from there!

I adore the jacket. Would wear it with red trousers/jeans and tee.
It fits nicely with the white shirt and blue skirt here, though.
The belt has such a pretty colour, too.

Yes I definitely have items like this that I can't work out how to wear. Funnily enough it is almost always jackets.I have loads of them.

It is a really beautiful jacket and perfect for autumn. How about with jeans. I would probably wear it with something completely random like a floral dress!

I have so many clothes like that. It's a pretty jacket though. It would go great with black skinny trousers.

Also love your make up here.

Love the jacket and the outfit works really well.
Have you considered trying it with some dark trousers or jeans?

Gorgeous jacket, I reckon you will get alot of wear out of it come AW. I think it would look fab over a burgundy/navy dress!

I know exactly what you mean. I do this all the time!
I have a similar jacket that I wear over a fitted black dress, I always feel good in it.

love the tweed! everyone has one of those items! if it was me, I would probably wear in it in the autumn with a dress or tunic underneath to show off the jacket detailing. x

Absolutely gorgeous jacket! I think I'd wear it with skinny jeans and a white shirt.

Beautiful pictures.

It's a gorgeous jacket, why have you been denying it us?! :P
Maybe see how it looks with a floaty dress for a little juxtaposition? And some chunky shoe boots.

Hello fellow Lewisham-ite! That jacket is beautiful! It would go with neutral basics - like jeans etc. Check out H&M AW11 catalogue as it has a whole range of stuff which will go with that jacket.

I love the jacket! I'm trying to think of things that could be worn with it...and I am blank. However, with all the A/W pictures coming out now/soon, perhaps you'll get inspiration from that? Hopefully! xx

Ooh, I do love a tweed jacket. I honestly think you could wear this with anything. I reckon it would look really good with the brown floral dress from this post: http://www.whereisharriet.net/2011/07/take10-stolen-thunder.html Add some simple shoes and you're good to go.

I tend to wear mind with really bold colours, yesterday was a bright cobalt blue pencil dress!

Oh, I do this all the time. Which means I have a wardrobe full of nothing basically.

Ooooh love the jacket. I have a couple of things in my wardrobe a bit the same. Or worse- things I'm too scared to wear.

I reckon this would look great with anything navy or white.

the jacket is gorgeous. I have so many items that I can never manage to wear, and some 'saving it for the rigt occasion' (that never happens)

I love it with these shorts- seeing as heritage type stuff is in again for autumn, I'd wear it with more 40s type items like wide leg trousers. Go all out with the tweed!

Oh yes! I know that problem. And then it hangs there and hangs there and... Great idea to get it out and on the blog. It's a strong jacket which should look great with black slim trousers or jeans. xo

yes! I do that all the time! This post however, inspired me to get one of my cute blazer,s that I can't wear, size adjusted.

I actually have this problem alot and now have a rule that i have to think of three outfits before i buy an item of clothing - its a gorgeous blazer :-)

Strange that you should consider it so difficult to wear, because it is so very you! The cut is so flattering and stylish, and it works amazingly with the crisp shirt and navy blue. You should definitely rethink this one and experiment with it more, it is so perfect for the late summer/early autumn too!

I ADORE this jacket, I would wear it with skinny fit beige/black trousers or over a floral dress, it's similar to my brown checked Tesco coat which I just mixed and matched with everything in the end :

The Tom boy look will be so hot this fall, so this jacket will work nicely.

Aw, I think the hair is cute and not at all crazy.

I have a few of those sorts of items in my closet as well. Mostly I end up just admiring them hanging there and never actually try to find something to wear with them. Perhaps we should start some sort of mission to incorporate these unworn pieces.

Love that jacket. I'm surprised you don't wear it, because it's so you! Don't you have a navy dress? Surely it'd look awesome with that...
