A Day in a Dress

Dress - coutesy Vouchercodes, Shoes - Vivienne Westwood for Melissa, Tights - H&M

I probably don't need to describe to you the excitement that comes from getting dressed up and putting on a posh frock. Give me any excuse and I am there! So when Most Wanted from Vouchercodes offered to send me a party dress, on the condition that I wear it for a normal day, all day, and report back I thought it would be a pretty easy challenge...

I may have underestimated slightly! Let me tell you what a delicate beaded black party dress is not compatible with...

It's not a good dress to put your foundation on while wearing. It's not a good dress to paint your nails in. It's not a good dress to eat a ham and tomato sandwich in. And it's definitely not a good dress to have to run when you're late in!

It is a perfectly gorgeous party dress though, and I love it very much, I guess I just never realised how putting on a special dress alters the way I act.

When I'm dressed up I'm on best behaviour. I'm careful and I'm much more conscious of myself. In contrast in my everyday life I'm messy, I spill things, I sit on the floor and I leave cardigans crumpled on my chair, and the miracle of the washing machine means I just don't worry that much about it.

I definitely don't take as much care of my clothes as I should, and even just writing that down has made me go hang up three skirts and a blouse slung over a chair in my bedroom - I'm trying to get better!

So thank you Vouchercodes for the challenge - the dress was perfect, I think I need some work though!

Ha! I'm totally the same, definitely don't take as good care of my clothes as I should... The dress looks very pretty on though!

It looks lovely Harriet, but I know what you mean about acting differently! I find myself more self-conscious in dressy clothes anyway, so to wear a party dress during the day would be a real challenge! x

Aw me too, I'm so bad at looking after my clothes, and I always ruin black dresses by putting on make up while wearing them! It's a gorgeous dress though x

That dress looks lovely on you - great look with the white tights. Also, I'm so jealous of those heels!! Want :)

That dress is gorgeous, but I agree I don't think I would be able to wear it on a weekday without an occasion I'm far too messy!

Definitely know about dressing up nice making you act nicer. When I'm in my mufty hoodies & jeggings, I am such a slob. As soon as I'm in a dress, I sit up straight. Check you out though, that dress looks gorge on you!

This reminds me, I recently ruined a really expensive shirt by painting my nails crimson whilst juggling a cup of tea and the tv remote. Sad days!

Anyhow, how elegant you are! I'm reminded of a Hercule Poirot episode, you always manage to create something timeless & unique. Love the sheer sleeves, too, which reminds me that I really need to locate a decent dressy dress for winter. Currently, I have zero dressy dresses for winter. Oh.

Very Wednesday Addams with the white tights! How apt for Hallowe'en.

This post reminds me of Sunday - I put on a really nice white lacy dress to go and have brunch, then I got home and got changed immediately... it's not the sort of thing for lounging around the house in!

I used to make myself get dressed up nicely for days in the library when i was at Uni because I'd be so much more motivated and careful with my work! Isn't it weird how clothes impact your mood?

A bitch to wear, but it *is* a very pretty lovely dress. And sounds like an interesting experience to learn from!

What a great challenge! I own about three "party dresses", and I'm awful when it comes to looking after my clothes (especially the hand wash only ones... chuck them in the washing machine...!). Lovely dress though :)

This dress looks gorgeous on you, I love the long sleeves. I agree that I act differently when I'm dressed up - I could never imagine slumping at my desk in my work outfits but at home when I'm in casual clothes I move and behave totally differently! Thank goodness my work doesn't have dress down Fridays...x

I love the inspired choice of white tights too. This dress is such a classic 60s style shift. It's the sort of polished and grown-up party dress that somehow should have, consistently like but never buy.

Reading your post is giving me the feeling that I need to be neater too (in a good guilt way).

What a fabulous challenge! I'm different when wearing a posh frock for an event too, though I'm still crude
