I didn't do much shopping while I was in York but I did happen into an Oxfam bookshop and came away with this beautifully bound and illustrated collection of the works of Dorothy Parker.

I've loved her poems for ages - she is so witty and had such a dark sense of humour, which unfortunately came from quite a troubled life. This is the first time I've read some of her short stories though, so I'm savouring each and every one - reading the book slowly for maximum enjoyment!

Do you race through books you love, or try and make them last as long as possible?

I always rush through books, but normally have to go back and re-read the page I just read because I had gone through it too quickly! Enjoy your book, seems like a fabulous find! Xo

I prefer to taste and savour the words - I never rush through the books I adore. Reading is like sipping tea;-)

I always try to make them last but once I get caught up in a book I can't stop reading and end up finished too soon! xxx

I'm one of those people that possesses the ability to speed read....so even if I wanted to savour a book, I cant because my natural pace is fast! That being said, I often re-read books and on second reading read it slower on purpose!

But I can read even faster if I'm over eager...I've read a book in less than two hours before!

I usually race through them.

I discovered Dorothy Parker a few years ago and have a really good "The Essential Dorothy Parker" type paperbook that I loved when I first read it. I keep it on my bedside table and dip into it from time to time. X

I've been reading Caitlin Moran's 'How to be a Woman' and while not quite a literary classic it is hilarious and a wonderful new take on feminism. As I was about 3/4 of the way through it, I wanted it to be longer so I could enjoy more. I'm definitely a selfish, demanding reader-- if I like something I want more of it.

Oh, I rush through them but as I get closer to the end I often wish the story could go on forever! xx

I will have to try her out, I love finding new things to read! I read really fast (apparently it's 17.4 words a second) so I always finish a book really quickly!

I am so excited to find your blog as I'm a Canadian moving to London in January to start teaching. I am terrified for the move but seeing all your fun UK posts has made me excited and inspired!

I don't often get the chance to pick up a book, but when I do (usually on holiday), I rush it in case I never get to finish it.

I race through them and then read them again and again and again...
I haven't read anything by Dorothy Parker yet, so will keep her in mind. xoxo

I have her collected works and I love dipping in and out of her short stories. She is just so sharp and cutting and spot on. Beautiful. x

I hate it when I'm coming to the end of a good book- I try to ration myself to a few pages every night and then wonder if I'll find
one to replace it!
