Tidy Up!

Do you ever get the urge to tidy up, and you just can't rest until you do? I'll admit it isn't a common occurance(!) but every so often I just have to organise my wardrobe/sock drawer/makeup and I always feel so much more relaxed when everything is tidy.

It does mean that I suddenly realise how much stuff I have which I don't use though - which is not such a great feeling. This week's tidy session has unearthed all the things I compulsively buy and store away - primarily any sort of beauty product on 3 for 2 (everything in my bathroom is in lots of threes!) and too many pairs of coloured tights and socks.

Oh, and the tidy up of my wardrobe revealed that I own roughly 1/3 work clothes, 1/3 weekend clothes and 1/3 party dresses, despite the fact I wear my work clothes about 70% of the time, weekend clothes about 30% of the time, and party dresses about 0.005% of the time! Perhaps I need to step away from the sparkles - but they're so much more exciting!

Are you a bit of a hoarder? What do you buy and save for 'later'?

Oh I know what you mean... I had the urge to tidy my dressing table top this morning and I ended up being ten mins late for work! But, when the mood strikes, it really takes hold!
I have so many hair products that I use once or twice and then they end up gathering dust and night creams that I buy with good intention but rarely use!
I had a massive tidy up recently and donated loads of stuff to giveandmakeup (not boasting, just trying to spread the word!). Now, I try to only buy the things I need as and when I need them... but I do slip up occasionally - I never said I was perfect:O)

Hehe, I went on a tidying spree this weekend as well. I have a lot of stuff! I think I have enough body lotions to last me 2 lifetimes.

I can't stand to tidy up but love seeing everything in order when done.

Tidy drawers make me happy too!

As to your party dress dilemma, maybe wear one with knitted grey/neutral tights and a cardigan or jacket and appropriate shoes to make it more suitable for work/casual? I love pretty dresses too and tend to buy too many, but if I wear them with my long DMs and a jacket or coat over the top and tights underneath, I can usually get away with wearing them for less exciting occasions.

I love tidying up drawers! and I like getting rid of stuff I don't use (even if it's not a good feeling, but it feels good when it's done). :

Wow! I feel almost intimidated by the tidiness. I actually find tidying (as opposed to cleaning) quite soothing but the effect only ever lasts three minutes... x

Next time you get the urge, please pop to mine!

I know what you mean - In the past 7 months I have ha so many clear-outs! 12 charity bags & a good few eBay sales later I STILL have no space!
But really, if you wear your work clothes 70% of the time and you've found it only takes up 1/3 of your wardrobe, you've only given yourself a brilliant excuse to go shopping! Hooray! :D xo

Your beauty drawer looks super-organised. I occasionally get the urge to have a huge tidy-up, it's so satisfying to discover all the things that I have - definitely stops the urge to go on a Boots spree! Party dresses make up a large portion of my wardrobe too compared to how little I wear them! x

Oh god I am such a hoarder - cute socks, colourful tights, floral dresses, crockery, art materials! Half of my bedroom looks like a bomb site, I really need to do a tidy up like you!

It's such a great feeling knowing everything's in order (think I'm borderline OCD!). I hardly have any party clothes - thank goodness for the Company/Asos LBD this year! xx

This makes me want to tidy. Somehow it's incredibly satisfying! I have so many nail polishes that I need to throw out. I love that about your party dress situation! Time to get yourself to some more parties?

This is beautiful. I occasionally do this but it doesn't stay that way for long.

I've got too many clothes for the space I have. But we are moving house next week. I intend to buy a huge chest of drawers that will fit all my stuff and the boyfs in too!

yes, yes and yes. I think it is a girly trait to be drawn to sparkles. I love it when I have organised the bathroom with all my toiletries :) x

Wow so neat and tidy. I am definitely a hoarder. I always buy stuff if it is 2 for 1 then forget that I have it.

I love your organisation & it has inspired me so much! So much so that tomorrow is now tidy-up day & I saved a tiny ASOS delivery box to keep trinkets in.

Ahhhh I so need to do this! I have a huge wardrobe clear out every few months, but I swear my clothes just multiply!!

I love seeing all that color in your sock drawer! I often feel the urge to tidy up but rarely get very far with it-haha. I think your wardrobe is just the right proportions; just because we have to spend 70% of the time working doesn't mean our wardrobes should reflect that. Plus, you can wear the same outfit to work a hundred times, but you could not wear the same dress to a hundred weddings/birthday celebrations, etc. For one thing, there's usually photos being taken, whereas in offices, people barely take notice of what you're wearing, except to say "cute blouse," or whatever and go back to work.

I am trying really hard to not buy things unless it's predecessor is empty! So sick of having half-used lotions and hair products!
