I spent quite a bit of time looking for the perfect picture, I even visited the Battersea Affordable Art Fair (newsflash, it isn't) but in the end I spotted this little watercolour and ink picture in the O3 Gallery in Oxford and I knew it was exactly what I wanted.
I don't know very much about the artist, her name is Flora McLachlan and she studied at Oxford, but I just love her magical style. I waited very impatiently for her exhibition to be over so I could finally get my picture home, and it is now happily sitting in my room and I love it just as much as I first did when I saw it in the gallery.
Have you purchased or received something that means a lot to you? I'd love to hear the story behind it.

Hey
It is a really nice peace of art !
The most beautiful present ever is a guitar bought by my boyfriend last year for Xmas. He plays the guitar and wanted me to share this with him as I love music and used to play the piano.
Though I love this present I haven't started to play it yet. He learnt the guitar on his own but obviously I can't do that. So when I'll have enough time I'll take lessons that will be better.

What a beautiful piece! Great choice.
i think that's sooo lovely!
Beautiful picture :) So nice that you treated yourself to something that will really last and you can treasure for ever! x
This is such a magical piece of art, and such a special meaning behind it. I really admire the fact you chose to purchase something that will last forever xxx
Such a wise decision, it's stunning.
That's such a neat idea! Usually I just buy clothes or magazines (or Mini Eggs, my favourite!) when I feel like rewarding myself, but maybe I should be more...classy...with my purchases. :P

Its such a beautiful picture.

Lovely, a great way to spend your hard earned money. Despite my mum and her three sisters going to art college my granny only took to painting in her 80s. She did some beautiful paintings of wild flowers and landscapes and I will always treasure the ones she gave me.
A beautiful & heartwarming image - i love the sense of twilight mystery:)
Such a lovely choice. I rarely buy art, but the pieces we did buy are wonderful - and always remind us of the special moments in our life when we decided for them. xoxo
Oh that's lovely! I have a few prints around our house that I love, but the most special is probably our cityscapes of Valencia, the city my Grandparents are from, that we bought last year off an artist who sketches them everyday. they were only 10 euro each but are amazing! I must share it soon on my blog.
This is such a beautiful piece. Congratulations on passing your exams - it's really nice to have this as it will always be a reminded of what you've achieved. I definitely want to invest in some art when I have a bit more money. x
A great choice! I love getting artwork of the different places that we visit on holidays. I have a picture of the Mayan ruins in Mexico, 2 water colour pictures from Malaysia and a really lovely oil painting of surfers and the surf at Watergate Bay in Cornwall. Pictures are such a great way of remembering. Congrats on your exams!

Beautiful, and such a good idea. Something timeless that will bring back memories forever!

really lovely thing this, money well spent. i've been meaning to check out my local gallery for similar reasons, you get a whole different and more rewarding buzz from purchases like this.
What a lovely thing to choose! It will be a really special thing to treasure forever :)
My most treasured piece is my Louis Vuitton handbag. I had spied it and loved it online for months but knew I had no hope of saving up for it. I'd had my head injury in November and was barely managing one school lesson a day. And then my amazing parents went and took me shopping for it as my special present for sitting my GCSE exams :)

A piece of art is definitely a lovely way to spend money that is important to you! I'm not really an arty person but this is really beautiful and I can imagine it looking gorgeous on the wall! xx
Congrats, Harriet! And this is such a lovely idea! (I may have to steal it from you when I graduate this summer... insert innocent whistle here.) It's something you'll always have and will always cherish for all the hard work you put into it.
It's a beautiful painting too! Nothing beats watercolour!
xo.
I love it! And I love that you spent your bonus on art. :) I have a few pieces that I bought when I got my first real job after college; they've moved with me several times since then, and they still make me smile. It's true that clothes come and go for the most part, but art keeps giving you joy and inspiration for the rest of your life.
That's a beautiful piece! Investment is art is always a good choice. I love clothes and jewelry of course but after one point, it seems meaningless to me to spend every single penny I have in my hands on my wardrobe. I believe I've heard Flora's name before but I'll go and make a research right away, loved her style! x
