How to Wear a Peplum

top - h&m, skirt - mango, ring - vintage, shoes - schuh

I am not usually one for advice giving. I don't have nearly enough knowledge for that. But in the interests of science (and fashion, obviously!) I spent at least half an hour this morning trying to work out what on earth works with a peplum top, so now you don't have to!

FYI it's a yes to pencil skirts, trousers that are narrow on your hips and high waisted shorts, and a no to baggy trousers, a-line skirts, maxi skirts unless you have legs that go on for ever and leggings, but then I always think it's a no to leggings as trousers, regardless of the top!

I saw this top on a blogger a while ago (I can't remember which one, but they were Swedish, obviously) and couldn't stop thinking about it to the point where I had to track it down in H&M. It was crumpled in the store, and is probably designed for a longer torso than mine, but never the less I bought it, before realising I had nothing that really went with a peplum. Hence the massive trying on session.

Have you embraced the peplum, or is it a trend that I'm going to regret in about a month?!

Looks really cute on you paired with with a denim skirt. I don't think I'll embrace the Peplum as I'm worried it will double the size of my hips and they're huge already?!~ ox

I am dying to jump on the peplum wagon but i'm afraid my child bearing hips won't like it! The top is so lovely and really suits you!

I love this outfit - you look amazing! I'd be too scared to try peplum due to my wide hips! Xo

I saw this top in H&M and really liked it but the main reason I didn't buy it was because I don't have anything to wear it with. May have to consider digging out my only existing pencil skirt now. Thanks for the help!

I really want to embrace the peplum, and I couldn't find it in our H&M, and was so sad. I'd probably wear it with skinny jeans though...

I do like your take on it, however, looks great with that denim skirt.

I have to say, I'm a bit anti peplum, but this top looks lovely on you! It really works with the pencil skirt : )

Pelplums always look so stylish. I love how you've paired yours with denim -I wouldn't have thought that would work but it totally does. On the hunt for one now.

I love this top. It looks great on you with the denim pencil skirt. I have yet to invest in a peplum but have seen some lovely skirts in the shops. If only I wasn't on a spending ban! x

I love peplum tops because the look is retro and ladylike but somehow still fun, you know? I've never seen a peplum look dowdy. But it's true you have to pair it with something slimmer on the bottom. It looks great on you, by the way! :)

Also, I agree about the wearing leggings as pants...even if you're blessed with a perfect figure, it just looks wrong to me, unless you happen to be a backup dancer in an 80s video or something.

I must admit, I'm not a liver of this trend. But it totally suits you, you look very ladylike - which is a good thing.

I love how you styled the top. I would have no idea where to start! I think I have one or two of them in the back of my closet. I may have to dig them out now.

You look so chic! The way you have styled this is so unique, I saw this top just yesterday in H&M, and I am inspired by how you've styled it.

I love this peplum top, I'm sure I've seen it in store as well (...oddly, since I don't shop in H&M!)
You're making me want to go and buy lots of tops and pencil skirts now for work :)

Definitely liking the fact that you paired it with a pencil skirt. It adds to the peplum without being the center of attention. And the dots are just the icing on the cake! Lovely outfit as always! Following you now and looking forward to your next post! x

I've seen a couple of people in this top too. It is super cute. I like the ladylike top and the clunky sandals. x

that top is SO cute on you

I love the print it's so gorgeous, a tricky one to style but the skirt really works well with it and doesn't distract from the detail xxx

I think peplum with pencil skirt is quite the perfect combination (as seen on you). I only own one peplum piece - a denim dress by Acne, which I LOVE and NEVER wear (the fabric is stiff as a brick). xoxo

Loving the outfit....and I've not really been thinking about working the peplum trend, but having seen how you've done it, I'm tempted to give it a whirl!

You nailed the peplum look, this is a great outfit! Awesome that you were able to track down your shirt. I haven't embraced the peplum, simply because I haven't come across any yet. I have no idea if they'd work for me or not!!

I saw it on All This Happiness! Kater was wearing this top and I fell in love with it. The pattern and the shape is so adorable and it definitely works amazing with a pencil skirt. Will try! xx

Aw I just did a post on this and would have loved to include your outfit in the mix! I'm loving peplums and I think it can be done by women with hips. I agree, narrow at the bottom ;)
