Things

A great stack of books (and a dvd!) by my favourite authors, a chocolate lindt bunny, a sparkly necklace, white clarks brogues and delicate vanilla scented roses for the bath!

I've never been quite sure about 'haul' posts. On the one hand I am incredibly nosey, and I love a good peek into what someone else has been buying, but on the other they can feel a bit 'look at all my stuff' - you know? I think my main weakness for these sorts of posts is just that I love photographs of things arranged in an aesthetically pleasing manner! Since it has been my birthday recently and I got some lovely things that were too pretty not to be photographed (before I go and mess them up!) I couldn't quite help myself.

The shoes I purchased myself with a voucher I've been saving for summer shoes for a while, but everything else were very kind gifts. I've already devoured the book of poetry by Carol Ann Duffy my boyfriend bought me, and I'm about half way through Wonder Boys and loving it!

Are you yay or nay on haul posts? (No offence will be taken either way - they are definitely a guilty pleasure of mine though!)

A lindt bunny and those gorgeous shoes, you are very lucky! I like seeing what people have bought especially when the photographs are as lovely as yours!

i love these kinds of posts, i don't think they are usually too show-offy. I love those brogues and hope you had a lovely birthday ;) Xx

You won’t believe how incredibly jealous I am of that Lindt bunny, he sure is a cutie!
I hate the kind of haul posts where the price tags/carriers are all on show, and it’s seemingly all about the cost, and how much was spent etc. This most certainly is not one of those, and I appreciate the aesthetics and beautiful photography xxx

i really like reading 'haul' posts, i sometimes just think the word haul lends itself to being thought of as show-offy as the word relates to an amount. HOWEVER without rambling on like usual, i never think of bloggers as showing off really.. especially when the posts are piles of books and what not.

i love seeing stuff like this - my eyes lit up to see the calvino as i've just started 'invisible cities' and am loving it.

i hope your birthday was lovely harriet. :) xxx

Oh I know exactly what you mean. I do do them myself as I always try and think about the things I like to read on blogs. As long as they are aesthetically pleasing or photographed creatively, I don't find them too 'show-off'.

I like haul posts too - if they're pretty photos, I like to see them! There's something quite disciplined about taking photos of your things before you dig into them, and I love that.

It's those little things! :)

Here's my thought on haul post; I love them! If the photographs and arrangement is appealing. And when it's obvious that some on put some thought into the post. But if it's just an "ugly" plain picture of "look at my stuff". I'm not that interested, haha. This might sound mean, but I think that if you're going to blog you should put some thought into yours posts and pictures! Like you do dear Harriet! :)

You should eat the chocolate whilst you're lounging in the bath with the pretty flowers! Ultimate bath time :)

Personally I love haul posts. It's so much fun to see what others are buying.
I read The Worlds Wife earlier this year, and loved it!
And Wild Target is an amazing movie.

I love those Lindt bunnies! Is that Italo Calvino book good? I loved Invisible Cities. I know what you mean about haul posts; when beautiful things are artfully shot, it's like a still life. I could look at them for hours. But those videos (I'm sure you've seen) where girls ramble on about all the cheap crap they got at the mall, and they really are just like "look at my stuff!" haha...um, no thank you.

Ahh, the Henderson brogues! I have just bought them in blue. :o)

I'm in two minds about haul posts - I DO think they can sometimes come across as conceited, but I also DO enjoy having a nosy at them!

i love staring at other people's goodies too! Nice book selection, and the shoes are fantastic - I keep pondering purchasing paler footwear (everything i have is brown or black)..x

Love the shoes, they're gorgeous, and Happy belated Birthday, hope you had a lovely day.

I kind of like 'haul' posts, but I like them if they're part of pretty photography- like yours or more review type posts or incorporated into other things.

Chocolate and a good book, such a lovely way to spend time!! :)

I quite like a haul post, only because I'm nosey and I love to see what people are buying (I'm also really into what other people are eating... I'm a nightmare in a restaurant!).

And amazing shoes. They'll be pretty even when a bit scuffed!
