For my mum's birthday I bought her Advanced Style by Ari Seth Cohen. I discovered the Advanced Style blog a while back, and I knew my mum would just love it. She's not in the advanced category yet(!) but it is so inspiring to see women looking amazing at 70, 80 and 90 and to know that women don't have to just fade away as we get older. My mum loves clothes as much as I do, and I can't imagine that changing, even when both of us are grey. Admittedly I have been dying my hair since I was 16, and my mum has been every shade of the rainbow (including pink!) over her life so that might take a while longer than it should...

So much of fashion blogging is all about celebrating youth, I love that Ari Cohen's blog turns that on it's head, and I can see why his blog, and his book have been so popular. I love how exciting all the women photographed are. I admire twentysomething bloggers who can throw on a t-shirt and jeans and look amazing, but these women put so much effort into their everyday looks, it's so much more interesting!

Do you have any older style icons?

I love love love Advanced Style! I find his subjects much more inspiring than alot of the street style out there.

I think they tend to make much bolder fashion choices, which make for fantastic inspiration and brilliant photos.

Indeed. I do have a mature style icon - my mama. She has such inner style. What a lovely present for mother. I'm sure she'll enjoy reading.xx

Sounds like such an amazing book! It's great that there is something that celebrates fashion for older women. It's so inspirational. I need to pick this book up at some point.

Yep I'm a huge fan of Advanced Style too! I'm all about wearing whatever you want at any age. And I'm always particularly fascinated by the hats and accessories these women wear! Amazing. Such a great gift for your mom. :)

I've got this book hidden away for my mum's birthday. It's the only blog she reads and she has shown all of her friends. Love these women

I feel shameful that I've never even heard of that blog before, but it's awesome - I hope I'm that stylish when I'm older! I hope your mum loves the book. x

Oh, you got the book! I think there's a whole movement of 'the elderly'... from cool bloggers like Sacramento and Vix to films like the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. My elderly style icon? Moi!
