Lipstick Dress

dress - asos, shoes - bata, belt - vintage (from my grandmother)

I think I must have a bit of a lipstick obsession at the moment, because when I saw this dress on Lena Dunham in the latest asos magazine I had to have it!

I wore it to my sister's graduation last week, along with my red coat and it certainly made me easy to spot in a crowd! Unfortunately I tried to photograph it in the morning before the graduation, but my tripod fell apart as soon as I made it up to a quiet spot to take some photos! RIP tripod :( I ordered a new, more sturdy one asap, and I was determined to get these photos done this weekend, but as soon as I left my house to go and take them it started to rain. I was feeling pretty stubborn and by that point I just wanted to get them done and show you my new dress already, so I decided to press on anyway.

That was a pretty stupid idea as it turns out, and these three were the only photos salvageable, grumpy faced as they are. Honestly my hands were so cold by the end of it I could barely fold down the tripod! I had such a 'what on earth am I doing, and why do I spend my spare time trudging around taking photos of myself in the cold again?!' moment on the way back home. I think blogging always feels more hard work in the winter - when it's cold and dark outside and all I want to do is curl up on the sofa and never leave the house!

Do you get the blogger blues in the winter? Any tips for getting yourself out of a blogging rut?

Firstly that dress looks smazing on you, I love your pose and it's nice that your smiling a little.I always wonder should I smile, as there seems to be an unspoken blogger rule that smiling is just not done. I am only just intoducing outfit posts to my blog,so it's a bit of a learning curve, harder than it looks actually. I find if I don't smile I just look like I'm in a mood.

I have to confess I have not moved to outdoor poses yet and with winter here probably won't now! I have invested in a natural light bulb in the hope that even on duller days I can take outfit photos.

Best cure for blogger blues?I find allowing myself some fun time away from my blog works,it's hard being so creative all the time!:) xx

Ah, I adore you in this lipstick dress. You are so radiant in this picture. Glad to hear you have a new tripod, too. I agree - time away from blogging or anting one finds creative is good. Inspiration requires silence, too.

what a cute dress, Asos are so good with their prints! Luckily I get my boyfriend to take my photos and he is grumpy about it even in Summer so you can just imagine how annoyed he gets in Winter.. x

It was worth the cold hands - this dress is amazing!
I feel the same in the winter, I don't like inside shots but it's the best I can do at this time of year otherwise every shot would be of me bundled up in coat and gloves!
Hope the graduation went well x

Ahhhh that dress is adorable! I wouldn't have known how much effort you went to to get the shot, you look surprisingly relaxed. I try not to let all the stuff that goes along with blogging get me down, I'm having fun brainstorming new post ideas and exploring new places in the process. I've pretty much stopped using my tripod now I've realised that my 11 year old sis can use my dslr!

The dress looks amazing on you! Such a lovely cut. I never really take outfit photos outside but the dark days really annoy me and make my indoor photos look rubbish. I like to focus on other things I do and make the most of my free time at the weekend and then blog about that.

Cute! The weather here definitely effects picture taking, but you still pulled it off. <3

i sometimes get that feeling too - the why am i bothering to stand around taking photos of myself feeling. sometimes it seems so self indulgent, especially thinking of it from the perspective of people who don't really get blogging, haha. but at least most of the people who see the photos appreciate them!

Did you change your hair colour? You look fantastic! The dress is abolutely adorable, I'm glad you resisted the urge to go back in and made this photoshoot despite the rain; it looks lovely on you. Congratulations to your sister too! xx

Loving the dress, but this- this is why I take pictures inside! The thought of venturing out without a jacket at present is horrifying, although London always feels warmer to me than the North.

Gorgeous dress, and it really suits you too. Loving the red against your skin-tone.

I've barely taken any outfit photos for ages, as the light is such a pain in the butt at the moment. If I don't manage it before work, it's not gonna happen! Light gone!

Oh, this is so sweet! You'd definitely have to wear lipstick with it! X

Gorgeous hair too.

I love that dress on you, the colours look gorgeous! Even though it was raining, you look lovely. I do know the feeling though, I much prefer taking outfit photos outside but in the winter it's a nightmare!

I'm so with you on the winter blues front - that's basically what my most recent post was about! I've let myself sink into a bit of a funk for the last two weeks but I've decided to just put a smile on my face, a warm coat on my back and get in with it from Monday - does make outdoor outfit posts much harder when it's so dark though! x
