in My Makeup Bag

I mentioned the other week that I had bought this beautiful liberty print makeup bag and I thought I'd show you what was inside it. Before this my makeup was just rolling about in the bottom of my handbag, which just meant everything got really messy, so it was definitely needed. The downside is that now I have a makeup bag I tend to just check things in it, and the weight of my handbag has approximately doubled!

Here's what I carry around with me:

1. Two mac lipsticks in Velvet Teddy and Modesty. They look almost identical in this photo, and I'll be honest - they probably are! I went through a bit of an obsession with pale pinky-brown lipsticks. Modesty is a creamsheen lipstick though, and Velvet Teddy is a matte one.

2. Essie nail polish in Merino Cool and Barry M clear polish. These are left over from when I went to my parents' house to do some laundry and painted my nails at the same time. (This was a mistake - it is very hard to do the washing with wet nails. I do not advise it, unless your plan is actually to persuade someone else to do the washing in which case it's worth a try!)They're a bit heavy so I probably should take them out of my bag!

3. L'Oreal Paris false lash telescopic in Magnetic Black. I got this mascara on a 3 for 2 in superdrug as I needed a new one. I'm not very loyal to mascaras, I tend to buy whatever's on offer. This is good but it's not a life changer.

4. Collection 2000 lasting perfection ultimate wear concealer in Fair. This however, has totally changed my world. It's a fantastic concealer, plus it is super cheap and comes in a good range of shades. I actually have two - one in my makeup bag and one on my dresser so I'm never without it!

5. Little Red Tin lipbalm. This was from Boots ages ago I think, as you can see by how much is used up and how worn the tin is. It's a perfectly good vaseline replacement, though I'm beginning to go off the tin-style pot as it wrecks my nails when I try to get into it.

6. Neom complete bliss moroccan blush rose hand cream. This is a lovely handcream. It was free with a magazine a while ago and it smells wonderful. It is very strong though, so if you don't like rose it is probably not for you. It's doing a good job of keeping my hands soft this winter too.

7. Other bits: broken comb which came out of a Christmas cracker (need to replace this!), kerby grips and a beaten up looking mirror from Muji.

What are your essentials for keeping in your handbag?

Ah the curse of the heavy make up bag! Yours is absolutely beautiful! :) I always keep my Natural Collection matte powder with me and my favourite candy pink YSL lipstick, there's usually some sparkly gems floating round in there too!

what a gorgeous make up bag! Also loving the new blog design :) I always need some Clarins beauty flash balm as my face gets so dry in winter, and a good lippie! xx

You're like me and don't carry too much! Saying that I do have all my essentials in mine; YSL Touche Eclat foundation, Touche Eclat concealer and Lancome Mascara & eyeliner are all new buys for me and will def buy again, love them all! x

Try 'Brave' by Mac, too. It is a satin one!

The make up bag is so pretty. I really love the print. I tend to just throw my make up in my bag. The MAC lipsticks look great.

Yes, I agree with Rachel, Brave is lovely! I have that as one of my everyday nude ones. Nude by Clinique is also a nice colour. Love the print of the make up bag too.

I love your make up bag, so so pretty! I tend to have a burgundy lipstick and my Max Factor lipstain but I try not to lug too much make up around as I always forget which bag it is in!

I'll be checking out that concealer... I never know where to start when it comes to them so a personal recommendation is very helpful.
I tend to carry lip balm that I use daily, several lip glosses that I rarely use, a mirror and a nail file. That's it for my beauty products as for the rest of my bag - that's a mystery even to me, all I know is that it's darn heavy!

I love your Liberty make up bag. I always have lipgloss and a different lipstick depending on what I am wearing. Apart from that I just have powder in case shiny face strikes.

I tend to just take a Vasline lip balm and a Mac or Topshop lipstick. Love the Liberty print pag - I saw a Hello Kitty/Liberty toiletry bag in Boots that I really want, but I don't want everything that comes inside it!

This make up bag is so pretty. I really need to try the Collection 2000 concealer the next time I'm raiding Boots. x

i've got a little purse that i keep in my handbag with a comb and some blotting paper that i never use, a compact mirror and a small deodorant, but then all my lipsticks and lipglosses just roll around in the bottom of my bag and i'm forever searing for the colour i'm wearing that day - i'm terrible like that!

Oh that makeup bag is too pretty Harriet! I love how the polish (one that's on my wishlist) and the lipsticks co-ordinate with the print! A very organised little capsule of products - I usually have hundreds of lip colours rolling about, a cheek tint and 3/4 different lip balms and my L'Occitane hand cream stashed in different places. Perhaps I too need to invest in a pretty makeup bag...

Love the make up bag, it's a beautiful print. I swing between loving and loathing having one in my handbag- it's great when all you need from the cavern of your handbag is a hair pin or lip salve, not so great when you know the handful of items would fit much better individually on days where a smaller handbag is wanted or required.
