Cheese tasting at Leadenhall market
For Christmas my sister bought me and James a food tasting experience. There were a lot of options to choose from but for two cheese obsessives there was always one we were going to choose - the cheese tasting at Leadenhall market.
Leadenhall is located in the city of London, right near Bank station, and to be honest it isn't somewhere I've ever thought to go before. It's a mixture of a handful of great independent food shops (wine, chocolate, cheese, basically all the important stuff!) and a few chain-y places such as Pizza Express, Hobbs and Reiss. I think it's basically a one stop place for city types to stock up on posh food and work clothes in a hurry!
When we arrived we were given a talk by Sue, the founder of Cheese at Leadenhall, taking us through all the cheeses they sold. They are a truly independent cheese shop, and so they sell cheese from all over the UK and Europe completely selected by them based on what they love. We then picked out five cheese to try ourselves, accompanied by bread and one of the nicest glasses of red wine I have ever had.
The cheese itself was like a party in my mouth! We went for a mixture of pretty much everything - I love stinky cheeses and the blue-er the better, whereas James prefers a creamier less complicated flavour. The only one we tried which was maybe a bit much was the Stinking Bishop cheese. I liked it, but after one bite James decided it wasn't for him, so I ended up eating two people's share - which was a bit of a mistake!
We ended up coming home with a bagful of cheese, and a bottle of the amazing red wine, though there was no pressure to buy at all, we just wanted everything! And this was despite the fact we were so stuffed full of cheese I barely ate for the rest of the day.
If you are a cheese lover, or know someone who is I would so recommend this experience - it was just so delicious and such an enjoyable afternoon.

Mmmm cheese... Now I'm hungry. Sounds like a fab day!
Such a treat and what a generous sister you have too. I love cheese!
The cheese looks yummy, I'm hungry now :)
What a lovely gift idea. I'm not a big cheese fan but most of my friends and family are! x
This sounds like a great idea for a gift! To be hones,t I'm not much of a cheese connoisseur and I hardly get the fancy stuff, but this looks really nice.
A 'bagful of cheese'!? This sounds like my kind of thing :)
very good idea - i actually clicked on it before I read you suggesting it but I don't see any events coming up soon!
I have actually tried the Stinking Bishop (at Davy's vaults) and I did not like it either
I'm not a fan of stinky cheeses but this experience sounds perfect for the ol' cheese lover! My favourite cheeses are mild ones so yummy Wensleydale and Applewood cheddar for me please!
I don't really have an intelligent comment to write about this post. Mostly all I am thinking right now is: Mmmmmm, cheese.

How fun! I love cheese myself, I think I can happily live on various forms of cheese and bread for the rest of my life. This is definitely something I am willing to try. xx
Looks like a great place. Actually, it looks kind of familiar and I wonder if I ever stumbled into Leadenhall market...would've been years ago now, but something about the picture with the ceiling and columns looks very familiar. Anyway, thanks for the tip! Will have to add to my "if I ever make it back to London must do" list. :)
personally I'm not a massive fan but I still think it's because I haven't found any I really like, not that I don't like any. Hollie would love this experience, really cool gift.
