I've been in my job for four years now, and I was an intern before that, and I've owned a significant proportion of my work wardrobe ever since I started. I think maybe it is about time for an update! My usual uniform for work is a pencil skirt and blouse, smart comfortable shoes and a cardigan, with a few simple accessories but nothing over the top.
I managed to leave my beloved (and slightly tired looking) grey uniqlo cardigan on a plane on a work trip, as it was the same colour as the seat(!) so I really want to replace it with a couple more as I literally wore it every day. The shoes and bag are desperately needed as all my flats are from primark and not good for all the rain we've had recently, and my current handbag was bought cheap and in a hurry when my old one broke in the middle of oxford street, and is not particularly practical or wearing well. Finally the printed scarf and pencil skirt are bright and fun and would add a bit of colour to the cold and grey month or three we are expecting.
I don't have the cash to really fully update my work wardrobe right away (I owe my builder way too much still from the house!) but it is definitely something I will be making sure I prioritise over the next few months. While I hate all those 'dress to get a promotion' articles in magazines, I do think that it is important to dress smartly and professionally whatever your job, as it helps people know you take your work seriously, and makes me feel more confident as well.
What's on your work wardrobe update list this spring?
