Now that my bedroom is pretty much done, and the long month of January is finally over (I had no money for pretty much the last two weeks) I am turning my attention to the living room. At the moment we have relatively little furniture - our Ikea Karlstad sofa, a 1950s teak coffee table I bought from an auction, a very shiny tv currently sitting on the coffee table as we have no tv stand, and an old fortnum and mason hamper used as a side table. Knicknacks are even fewer - in short it's functional but not very pretty.
At the far end of the room is our green wall which dominates the study area, and I want to pick up the colour at the living room end, to make the whole room feel more cohesive. Mostly I am thinking of a palette of grey, white and wood, with accents of yellow and olive green to bring everything together. I ordered the rug in the image above as a pay day treat at the weekend, in giant size (2m by 3m). It will hopefully make the living room area more defined, the floor warmer, and the room less echo-y - quite a lot of expectations for one rug! It's a bit of a gamble too as I have ordered it from an Italian company - Artic Design, which I have never bought from before. I did learn about them in the Guardian homes section though, and it was very reasonably priced, so fingers crossed it is as nice in real life as it looks on screen!
The other major purchases I am looking to make over the next few months are the Eames RAR Rocking Chair above, which I have loved for approximately forever, even though I know it's a totally cliche and hipster thing by now, and a proper tv stand so I can have my coffee table back! The problem is I need the tv stand to fit in a relatively small alcove - just 99cm wide, and trying to find a sideboard or media consol which is both attractive and less than a metre wide is proving an impossible task. The hunt continues!
